CHOOSE HAPPINESS

This month of May has been quite eventful, well at least for me. So many things have happened that it has become increasingly difficult for me to keep track of it all without bursting. And as expected it has brought with it some lessons. If I have learnt one thing though throughout this ‘phase’ of my life is that nothing is far more important than your happiness. I have learnt not to sacrifice my happiness for any other thing.

It is sad to see that young people between the ages of 18-35 are quite unhappy. The unhappiness can span from a range of employment to finance to career choice and the most confusing one, love. It is as if our generation has sacrificed happiness for modern technology. Which in the end only provides superficial happiness at its best.

Drip, Water, Drop Of Water, Liquid

What I’ve learned to do is ‘stop and smell the roses’. Well, not literally roses because, A: I do not have a garden and B: I do not particularly love roses. The point i’m trying to drive at however is this, appreciate the seemingly little things in your life. Indulge in yourself sometimes. Buy that red lipstick or the sunglasses you’ve always admired. Go out and try that new restaurant you’ve always eyed on your way home. Take that vacation, buy a book and read or go out with friends and relax.

In short, try as best as possible to create your own happiness. The situations surrounding us might not always be favorable. In fact, it hardly ever is. However, that doesn’t mean we should resign our lives to being miserable. Life is short. Before we realize it, we are either too old or worse case, dead. Remember happiness spurs productivity and creativity.

So, choose happiness. Learn to find the good in whatever situation, and if you can’t, do not dwell on what you cannot change. Your happiness infects others and has the power to make the world a better place.

Have a lovely week xoxo…..

If you haven’t done it yet, you can check this one and the new generation and give a feedback.

  1. Wow!! Nicely said my dear. One has to choose to be happy despite the circumstances you going through cause life is too short. I love the part where u said “Appreciate the seemly little things in your life ” that’s a catch, since one has to be grateful and thankful for everything. Keep it up Yatiana,;am looking forward to your next piece.

  2. So true! The tendency to get caught up in the monotony of day-to-day takes its toll in time. While giving ourselves the chance to enjoy the little luxuries in life, we aren’t wasting time (or money), we’re investing in ourselves. Thanks so much for the reminder!

  3. It’s so true that you sometimes just have to choose to be happy and thank you for a blog post that really made me think and reminded me of that. It’s easier said than done to be happy, and with all the stuff going on in the world it isn’t always easy but you have to make an effort to remove the negativity from your life and be happy for your own sanity!

  4. Great advice! I do agree that often people focus so much on the negative things in life that they do not appreciate what they have. So important to stop and appreciate the little things!

  5. I think a lot of not choosing our own happiness is that we’re too busy worrying about everyone else’s happiness. We’ve been told over and over again, ‘Don’t be selfish’, ‘Put others before you’, and other similar remarks. While I agree with these statements, it’s also necessary to take time for yourself. You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others, and you can start by choosing happiness 🙂

  6. I totally agree with you on not rotting others around us if we are hopeless cases of sadness.. This is so realistic and actually important for everyone of us to follow.. Either try to be happy in the things you can have and achieve or atleast try to not let your negativity affect the others around you.

  7. What a beautiful thought for the day. You’re so right, happiness really is a choice. I’m lucky because my husband is one of the most positive people I’ve ever met and reminds me of this every day!

  8. “So, choose happiness. Learn to find the good in whatever situation, and if you can’t, do not dwell on what you cannot change. Your happiness infects others and has the power to make the world a better place” I totally agree with this statement and we should all live by it for sure. If we don’t find happiness for our selves it will never find us.

  9. This is a great positive piece about “choosing” happiness, which so any of us forget to do. Some people mistake happiness with things that really don’t make you happy at all…like money and material objects. Positive people will choose happiness. I like the simple things in life that you shared, like reading a book, taking a vacation or hanging out with friends, that can lead to happiness. Good read!

  10. I love this message. It’s something that we all need to realize at the moment. We can’t dwell in something that has caused us misery or pain, we need to learn how to choose happiness regardless of how difficult the situation is.

  11. Sometimes I wonder how the younger generation will make it, they seem to always be in their cell phones and not speaking to one another.

  12. You know I’ve recently been thinking about how I should make a gratitude jar. Like write down all of the things I’m thankful for on pieces of paper to remind myself of what I have when I’m down. This is a great reminder!
